Film: Purple Rain

Tues., Aug. 4

The Plaza Theatre's monthly Art Opening and a Movie series takes a 1980s flashback with the 25th anniversary screening of Prince's PURPLE RAIN. Loosely autobiographical along the lines of Eminem's 8 Mile, Purple Rain features predictable but steamy off-stage subplots along with dynamic concert performances from Prince and the Revolution, as well as Morris Day and the Time. The screening coincides with the opening of a monthlong exhibit of 1980s-inspired art. $8. Art opening, 8 p.m.; additional screenings Aug. 7-8, 9:30 p.m. 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave. 404-873-1939. www.plazaatlanta.com.
