In the midst of a career that has spanned more than three decades, Fishbone never quite gained mainstream acceptance but amassed a huge cult following. (Can nearly 55,000 Facebook “Likes” be wrong?) Achieving longevity with its mix of ska, funk, punk, and post-soul poetics lies in the band’s ability to channel a universal sense of harmony. “Sunless Saturday,” “Fight the Youth,” “Party at Ground Zero,” and other Fishbone classics build tension with sociopolitical commentary that never trumps the party vibe.
