Despite being the shortest month, February holds a lot of important history. President Abraham Lincoln signed the 13th AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION, which officially freed the slaves, on Feb. 1, 1865. From MARCH 3-5, an original copy of the document -- one of 13 known in existence -- is on display at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. The copy, which has been in a private collection since 1894, will be auctioned March 30. The three-day event closes the MLK Historic Site's current voting-rights exhibit Of Ballots Uncast: The African-American Struggle for the Right to Vote. Free. Daily, 9 a.m.--5 p.m. 450 Auburn Ave. 404-331-5190. www.nps.gov/malu.
