FRIDAY 04.13

One of the "Original Kings of Comedy," D.L. Hughley brings his stand-up show to the Civic Center APRIL 13. The actor/comedian has made a name for himself as the star of his own show, "The Hughleys," and is currently on the big screen in the romantic comedy The Brothers. 8 p.m. $32.50-$34.50. 395 Piedmont Ave. 404-523-6275.

THE CHANGELINGS, JANAH, FANCY -- The Changelings headline tonight after a few months hiatus for studio recording. Also performing, Atlanta's Janah noodle around with a Middle Eastern sound. Rounding out the local bill -- and playing their last show -- Myssouri expatriates, Fancy, could come off sparse with their acoustic guitar, upright bass and lap steel, but their songs tend to swirl around your head and in the rafters, while most of the singing is buoyed in a sense of pining. Echo Lounge (Overstreet)

KING JOHNSON -- Friday the 13th is your lucky day if you are seeking a long evening of funky blues from Atlanta's royal rockers King Johnson. A little roadhouse blues, a little New Orleans funk, and a lot of spirits will make this evening a good time and a blur. Chip's/Winder (Smith)

STAR ROOM BOYS, AMY PIKE AND ONE MORE COLD BEER -- Country doesn't come much more rootsy than the way the Athens-based Star Room Boys play it, complete with pedal-steel twang and wrenching heartbreak in every verse. Former Continentals songbird Amy Pike opens the show with her own house brand of cry-in-your-beer cheer. Star Bar (Nicoll)
