Is this a good time to talk?
Can I call you back?
(10 minutes later)
I'm sorry, I had a sick bird in my hand. I keep finches. Out of all of the 70 birds I have, she is my favorite. She is so smart and so responsive, and when something new gets put into the cage, she goes right to it. She's not afraid of anything, and she's not afraid of me when I put my hand in the cage. And a few days ago, she got very ill.
What kinds of finches do you have?
I have Zebras, Siberian Goldfinches, Cordon Blues, Lady Gouldians, Society finches and a couple of canaries who keep pretending that they're going to make more canaries, but they don't. ... I have four cages full of birds in my sunroom. And every morning there's a ritual: food and fresh water and seeds all over everywhere.
When new people come into my home, I can usually tell what kind of person they are by how they respond to my birds. If they say, "Oh my God, this is so wonderful," I know that I've got some level of communication with that person. If they say, "Oh my God, how can you stand all that noise?" then I know I've got a problem.
