Twenty years ago, in a different Atlanta, a group of musicians interested in free jazz began performing as Gold Sparkle Band, ultimately playing an important role in the Nu South improvised jazz scene of the mid 1990s-early 2000s. Since then, a few members moved away to NYC, playing with various noted musicians including bassist/composer William Parker, but this Saturday the gang’s all here: Roger Ruzow on trumpet, Charles Waters on alto saxophone and clarinet, Rob Mallard on tenor saxophone, Chris Riggenbach on bass, Andrew Burnes on bass, and Andrew Barker on drums and percussion.
