The Spiritual

6 people who define the holiday season
The Rev. Jamey Droddy, Baptist campus minister, Emory University

What's their deal

"Everyone is created for a purpose. A Christian is a minister by nature but I felt the call of God to minister as a profession. Specifically, I feel as though God created me to minister to college students. I'm doing the thing I'm supposed to do and having a blast doing it – it's very fulfilling."

Ideal holiday meal

"I grew up in rural Louisiana and we always had lots of great food at every holiday meal. The ideal meal, though, has nothing to do with the food but rather the people that I spend holidays with. One in which I am with my wife, kids, extended family, and many friends – basically one big party. I'm a people person!"

Perfect gift

"The perfect gift to give or receive is something that has a lot of meaning and that you can tell was given much thought. I always like it when someone takes the time to make something for me and I like to give things that I have made. It may sound trite, but I really enjoy giving a gift that I have put a lot of thought and time into and seeing the person's reaction because you know they'll love it."

Where's the party?

"Driving around looking at Christmas lights will always be fun to me. Also, Christmas is a wonderful time to enjoy great music. There are always plenty of church pageants, cantatas and concerts to help you remember and celebrate the birth of Jesus."

Feel-good activity

"Christmas can become a very busy and complicated time. I enjoy anything that helps me stay focused on the simple message of Christmas: Christ was born as a baby to eventually become our savior."
