Going to the movies on Christmas is a major holiday tradition, usually driven by the need to escape a wrecked house and nagging family members. The myriad new releases, including DREAMGIRLS (right), THE GOOD SHEPHERD, THE GOOD GERMAN, CASINO ROYALE, WE ARE MARSHALL and NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM offer plenty of choices. But if you want something cheap and sleazy, the horror remake BLACK CHRISTMAS features a slasher stalking a sorority house over the holidays. (He sees them when they’re sleeping, etc.) Finally, you’ll find an unexpectedly apt plea for “peace on earth, goodwill toward men” in an unlikely but superb source: CHILDREN OF MEN, a low-tech, sci-fi thriller starring Clive Owen and Julianne Moore, from the director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
