On MTV: "When it first came out, it put me into everybody's living room and that's why the band got big. It was a godsend to everyone that loved music and bands. It was a great idea and a little rebellious. Then it died. Now it's just a piece of crap. VH1 used to just be for older people, but now it's better than MTV. Who wants to watch game shows all day? Stupid game shows at that. MTV is just another corporate flunky and it's got middle-age spread. It was the alternative, now it's mainstream. Mainstream rubbish."
On the '80s: "Well, obviously I had a great time then. It was a great period and I think that's why a lot of kids are trying to relive it these days. It was such a fun time and a more open period than now. You could be crazy, wear crazy clothes and listen to silly bands. I lived it once. I don't particularly want to live it again, except maybe weekends when I'm playing."
On New Romantics: "I never really knew what a 'new romantic' was. I think it was just a way to try to sell soap powder. Here's a heavy metal band, here's a soul band. What are these guys? Oh, 'new romantics,' I guess."
On New Wave: "With new wave, it was like, 'Look, here's a new wave of bands like you've never heard before.' I think it's amazing it became a genre of music."
On The '90s: "I forget what happened in the '90s."
On Radio: "We'd never get played now. Radio is just a big corporate thing now. I guess it's all Clear Water or something like that, right? In those days, if you went your own way and it was cool, somebody would play you. There were people like [legendary British radio host] John Peel around then. He would say, 'This band is not tryin' to be a big hit or a corporate band; they are just doin' their thing so I'm gonna play them.' He would play the alternative. Now 'the alternative' means exactly the same as everybody else."
On UFOS: "They're out there. Doesn't mean you have to see 'em. There are a lot of things that we never see that are out there. Anyone into any kind of religion knows that. If you believe in it, then it's true."
On Remixes: "When I write a song, I never think, 'Wow, this could be remixed into something special.' For me, 90 percent of the 'remixes' that I hear are just rubbish, anyway. I think there's a place for them, but it's not in my house."
On the hair: "Hair is a thing for young people to mess about with. I was a hairdresser, I was into the whole scene. That's why I had a cool hairdo. Now I don't give a damn about it. I'm not in the hair scene. I'm not in the fashion scene. If you like hair and messin' about with it, fine. But don't come to me and say, 'Hey, do your hair like that again,' 'cause it's not gonna happen."
All 80s movies want you...
Their show with Chris, Lord about 3 years at the Unicorn was the best.
