Is Atlanta the right word for Atlanta?

TOBY, ATLANTA
I love the tale of Atalanta. It’s a cool story and a cool name for the city. Atalanta sailed with Jason and the Argonauts. She dedicated herself to Artemis, the goddess of the hunt who was a virgin, and said she too would remain a virgin. But Atalanta was very beautiful and all the men wanted to marry her. So her father said whoever could beat her in a foot race could marry her. So Hippomenes threw out three golden apples while they raced, and she stopped to pick them up and that’s how he won and became her husband.

CATT, ATLANTA:
It reminds me of the lost city of Atlantis and I see Atlanta as a city being found. I think in pictures, and I see Atlantis as the skyline of New York in a glass bubble and then emerging, like Atlanta. I don’t like these nicknames like “Hotlanta.” I think of women in short skirts, high boots, like a go-go look. It’s a silly nickname. The visual image of Atlanta is good, but the name itself does nothing for me. Put it this way, I wouldn’t name my kid or even my dog Atlanta.

STEVE, ATLANTA
It’s musical, it’s got three nice syllables, it’s very poetic, very usable, it just flows. Lynyrd Skynyrd uses it and I use it as well in my little writing tunes. It’s nice, flows right into any lyric you want. You got a good rhythm going, doesn’t slow you down a bit. It’s not like Knoxville. It doesn’t hit you on the head. It’s At-lan-ta, you move on. You just feel great. You feel a little ocean, a little Atlantic on you. It’s got melody. The city is full of a bunch of morons but the word Atlanta is nice.??
