Is Underground now a happening place?

Darryl: The weekends have been packed already. It’s a great mix. Blacks, whites, gays, alternatives and a few stragglers. The bottom line is people like to drink. They want alcohol. And this place sells alcohol till 4 o’clock. You can drink till your brains fall out. The city wants it to work and it’s going to work. You have a lot of plain-clothes and undercover [police] here. It’s been a very relaxed atmosphere. Spring, summertime, it’s going to be at its peak. Underground is going to dominate.

James: It’s kind of sad they shut all the clubs down because of a few dumb asses and move them down here just to make more money instead of having the clubs out in other areas. It’s still about the same as before the clubs came in. I mean, you’ll get your clubbers, but other than that, it’s still pretty much the same people. Underground has a pretty bad name. I’ve seen a little bit more security but it doesn’t make a difference.

Vega: People are looking for a reason to come to Underground and now they have one. There are all these great clubs, it’s open till 4 and you’re allowed to walk from club to club with your drinks in your hand. The crowds have been great. I’ve seen the cops on their bikes going up and down through the parking decks. When I first came here, I didn’t think nothing of it. You can go hopping from club to club and get a bite to eat. I feel really safe. The security guards have been awesome.
