Jimi Hendrix: People, Hell, and Angels

Legacy

After disbanding the Experience, Jimi Hendrix traversed in new musical directions that expanded his already vast repertoire of sounds. Some work with Buddy Miles and Billy Cox has been released over the years, and now we have more rare and unusual takes on familiar songs in this pleasing collection of a dozen unreleased tracks. Always experimenting, at various points Hendrix brought in a sax player, hired different rhythm sections, and reworked well-known tunes with new melodic changes and beat patterns, and there are some stellar moments throughout this album. “Bleeding Heart” sounds brand-new, and a lengthy take of “Easy Blues” is mesmerizing. If more proof was needed that Hendrix was the greatest rock guitarist ever, here it is. (5 out of 5 stars)
