Jon Byrd’s legacy of Atlanta bands

When Jon Byrd relocated to Nashville about four years ago, he left a trail of brokenhearted Atlanta bands without a guitarist. You can catch him again Sat., April 29, at PushPush Theater, along with Little Country Giants and Davis Raines. Here are just some of the bands on his résumé:

??
1) The Windbreakers: A jangly pop outfit fronted by Tim Lee, Byrd toured with the band in the late 1980s.

??
2) The Strawberry Lava Lamps: An off-kilter ’60s cover band, Byrd played the psychedelic stuff way before it was cool again.

??
3) The Ratchet Set: Along with Clare and the late Todd Butler, Byrd made truck-driving songs. They had nice shirts, as well.

??
4) Big Fish Ensemble: Byrd played lead guitar on this band’s most recent CD, adding a hillbilly touch to the weirdness.

??
5) Greta Lee: This former Atlanta country queen was part of the reason Byrd left town, as they took their musical collaboration to Music City — the big time!
