Kahn gets choice nod in 11th

The Georgia Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League plans to back millionaire businessman Roger Kahn in his bid to win one of the state's two new congressional districts.

Kahn most recently lost to Bob Barr in 2000. This time, however, Kahn is running in one of those funky, Democratic legislature-engineered districts that runs through 17 different counties, stretching from Columbus all the way to Marietta -- the kind of district where a Democrat is supposed to win. Kahn will face former congressman and chairman of the state Judicial Nominating Commission Buddy Darden in the Aug. 20 primary, in a race that figures to be extremely competitive and closely watched around the state.

It's easy to overstate the importance of an endorsement, but the backing of an organization such as GARAL promises to nab a few single-issue voters, most of whom are the kind of hardcore Democrats who show up for primary votes.
