Who are some of your major influences as a DJ? Why?
Way too many to name — to sum it up, people like Doc Martin, DJ Spinna, Mixmaster Mike, Q-bert, the Break Mechanics, Deep Dish, Mark Farina, John Digweed, Danny T. — I could go on, and on... Local people that actually got me into spinning were Angela “Mixin” Nixon, J-Luv, Andre Perry (DJ 808) — these people taught me patience, and knew how to rock crowds — I liked that!
What artists do you most admire? Why?
Deep Dish — Miguel Migs — Nightmares On Wax — LTJ Bukem, to name a few. These people have made some timeless tracks — tracks that I have grown up to — some of the tightest production I have ever heard!
What qualities do you think make for a successful DJ?
Knowing how to program any crowd that you are presented to — having a good attitude - patience — having a good head for the business. (it can drive you nuts!).
Do you have any pet peeves as a DJ?
Too many people in the booth! The DJ booth is not a place to catch up on current events! Also, promoters that are shady.
What do you like about the Atlanta scene?
I like the the rave scene — it is huge! It seems to be getting bigger all the time — a lot of kids (including myself) like the huge party scene — but I love the house crowd that Atlanta has. It has gotten a lot bigger the past few years — it is a mature, beautiful crowd that always seems like the a-list. Need I say more?
What do you think the DJ/Atlanta scene needs?
Twenty-four hour clubs to stay open. More, better, and bigger club events — show some variety in the DJ’s that are brought in to town (everyone is tired of seeing the same old DJ’s that come here year after year — and do the same thing). Some outdoor events would be cool!
Where do you see the Atlanta scene headed?
Hopefully to a more mature, responsible scene — I see it going there!
