Lost in the Trees, Butterflies

When: Wed., Jan. 12, 8:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $10
Chapel Hill, N.C., singer/songwriter Ari Picker is the mastermind behind Lost in the Trees' vast, orchestral string arrangements, which swell under a web of deeply personal narratives. Judging by the songs on the group's ANTI- debut, All Alone in an Empty House, childhood didn't yield the fondest of memories -- his baggage runs much deeper than your standard indie rock bed-wetter brooding. But these stories are believable, and now he channels them into lush compositions that straddle the line between modern classical and folk.
