In Dante's Divine Comedy, lust is considered the least deadly of the seven sins. Perhaps that's because the 13th-century Italian poet derived so much pleasure from it. According to legend, he was living in political exile when he penned his literary masterpiece, his thoughts consumed by the romantic muse of his youth — a woman whom he'd met only on occasion and claimed to have fallen in love with at first sight when he was but 9. The wife and mother of his children was never mentioned in any of his poetry, but Beatrice, the beauty he lusted after from afar, inspired his most romantic works of art.
Needless to say, Dante had it bad.
Every year around this time, we find ourselves walking in his shoes, spying total strangers and entertaining lustful thoughts. We got a record number of reader submissions for the 11th annual Lust List, which only confirms what we've secretly known all along: Atlanta is full of hopeless romantics and late-night stalkers.
This year's list of hunks and hotties consists of a special breed, including a former K-pop star, a metal yoga goddess, a ceramic sculptress, and a classic-rock revivalist. They're all everyday people with high aspirations who make their living through service in the gathering places we call home-away-from-home: restaurants, bars, vintage shops, and exercise studios.
We approached them as you would, with naked eyes. That means none of the photographs included have been retouched or Photoshopped. If you want to see them in the flesh, however, we suggest you come to our Lust List party on Sat., Feb. 16, at 9 p.m. at Midtown's Halo Lounge. Presented in conjunction with Dope, and featuring DJs Applejuice, Jaycee, and Mars, the party will also feature a silent auction of items donated by the local businesses each Lust List winner represents. All proceeds will go to the winners' preferred charities.Celebrity Lust List photo gallery.
