Meet the judges 

Tayari Jones, Brenda Mills, Jack Pendarvis


Atlanta native Tayari Jones is the author of Leaving Atlanta, winner of the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award and a Creative Loafing book of the year. Her second novel The Untelling received the Lillian C. Smith Awards from the University of Georgia Libraries. Her work has appeared in New Stories From the South, The Believer and The New York Times. She is the Jenny McKean Moore Writer in Residence at George Washington University.


Brenda Mills is the managing editor of FC2, an independent publisher of innovative fiction. She has also worked as a freelance writer and editor, bartender, cafe owner, switchboard operator, mill worker and nanny.


Jack Pendarvis has written two books of short stories, The Mysterious Secret of the Valuable Treasure (2005) and Your Body Is Changing (2007) -- both published by (MacAdam/Cage). His first novel Awesome will be published in 2008. He writes regularly for The Oxford American. His work also has appeared in McSweeney's, The Believer, and the 2006 Pushcart Prize Anthology.
