Michael Nesmith

When: Sat., Nov. 2, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $32.50-$35
It’s frustrating when incredibly influential people are best remembered for the wrong things, even when those things are still pretty cool. Ask anyone on the street what they know about Michael Nesmith and most would say “the Monkees!” Hardly any would praise him as a hit songwriter for artists such as Linda Ronstadt and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, a founder of country rock, an innovator of promotional music videos, or an astute businessman who bucked the music industry and took control of his own destiny.” With age comes wisdom and hindsight, and Nesmith has embraced his legacy while he still can. Now 70 years old, Nesmith has embarked on a tour that celebrates 50 years of making music, performing (in chronological order) obscure work from his early days as an L.A folkie, his internationally renowned stint with the Monkees, the traditional country influenced First National Band, and his subsequent foray into video performance art and pop music. While presenting his songs in an intimate manner, Nesmith’s creative use of modern technology underlies his progressive mindset. Hey, hey, he’s way more than a Monkee.
