MEGADETH, ICED EARTH -- Any self-respecting headbanger knows that main Megadeth guy Dave Mustaine was a founding member of Metallica. Legend has it he was canned due to his considerable appetite for mind-altering substances. But Mustaine landed on his feet, crafting a ferocious, metallic roar with the 'Deth that easily outstrips the metal-lite/alternarock sound currently favored by his old band mates. Fans of Iron Maiden and its ilk will find plenty to pump their fists about in Iced Earth, which just jumped off the aborted Judas Priest tour. Roxy (Robertson/Foy)

MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT -- On the recently released The Reincarnation of Luna, Kult leaders Groovie Mann and Buzz McCoy stray from the darker industrial grooves of earlier releases and further explore the big-band electro-sleaze heard on Sexplosion!, 13 Above the Night and Hit & Run Holiday. Expect aural and visual themes of sex, sin and Satan as the notorious Bomb Gang Girlz shake to the infectious grooves. Masquerade (Williams)

PAUL RISHELL & ANNIE RAINES -- Blues of the Delta, country and Piedmont styles are performed with passion and precision from this internationally known duo. The Boston-based Rishell is a stunning fingerpicker and a convincing vocalist; Raines is considered one of the best traditional blues harpists in the biz. Blind Willie's (Horowitz)

THE WEARY BOYS -- This Texas-by-way-of-California outfit's "ding-dick-a-ding" factor may be too quaint for some, but those are just the sort of trendies the Weary Boys have little time for. Their vintage country sound is the understated product of a stark instrumental lineup that includes brushed snare drum, bluegrass-leaning tenor vocals, fiddle, upright bass and shallow stabs of rhythm guitar. In fact, the Weary Boys adhere so fiercely to tradition, it's hard to tell the originals from the covers. Smith's Olde Bar (Rowland)
