Literature

Over the past few years, Chicago poet KEVIN COVAL made appearances on HBO’s “Def Poetry Jam” and C-Span, among many other places. But don’t expect him to read sex and love poems when he speaks at Mercer University on APRIL 6, courtesy of campus organization Quadworks. Coval’s raison d’etre (captured in his new book, Slingshots: A Hip-Hop Poetica) is Jewish identity, cultural politics, and the ever-shifting landscape of America’s urban cities, all delivered in an incisive, occasionally cutting language heavily influenced by hip-hop idioms.

Free admission. 8 p.m. Mercer University, President’s Room, 3001 Mercer University Drive, Macon. 478-301-2874.
