Music: A Hawk and a Hacksaw

Fri., Sept. 25

Former Neutral Milk Hotel drummer Jeremy Barnes and his musical cohort Heather Trost are the core duo behind A HAWK AND A HACKSAW's ever-quirky explorations of the various enclaves of Eastern European and American folk music, with an accordion and violin leading the procession. The group plays in support of Délivrance, an album that found them holing up in Budapest to record with the Hun Hangár Ensemble and various other Hungarian locals to draw out a whirling Greek-, Balkan- and Gypsy-inspired dance-folk thing. Refined indie-pop duo Damon & Naomi and Atlanta native Jeffrey Bützer open. $10. 9 p.m. The Earl, 488 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-522-3950.
