See & Do - Music: Fountains of Wayne June 13 2007

Tues., June 19

In a review of FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE’s new Traffic and Weather, Spin magazine compared it to a John Cheever anthology. That’s a heady comparison, but it hints at the enormous critical respect – if not always acclaim – for the New York power-pop band. For casual listeners, even its sole hit, the classic “Stacy’s Mom,” contains more wit than the usual suburban teenager escapade. Fountains of Wayne plays Tues., JUNE 19 at the Variety Playhouse. Atlanta rock prospect Gringo Star gets the opening slot. $15-$17.50. 8 p.m. 1099 Euclid Ave. 404-524-7354. www.variety-playhouse.com.
