Music: Gillian Welch

Fri., Feb. 16

Since the success of GILLIAN WELCH's 1996 Grammy-nominated album, Revival, Welch has churned out more hit records, collaborated with famous friends such as Ryan Adams, and even made a guest appearance in the Coen Brothers film O Brother Where Art Thou. Welch and longtime music partner David Rawlings refer to their haunting blues-folk-country-Americana blend as American primitive. Though Welch released her last album, Soul Journey, in 2003, she and Rawlings have continued to tour, stopping Fri., FEB. 16, at Variety Playhouse. $25. 8:30 p.m. 1099 Euclid Ave. 404-524-7354. www.variety-playhouse.com.
