British group HOT CHIP bridges the gap between electronic and pop songcraft in a much more satisfying fashion than the Postal Service and other "indie-tronica" acts. Though the band's vocals sound fey and melancholy, its sounds are challengingly arrhythmic, making its music somewhat unpredictable. Hot Chip's second album, The Warning, came out last year, but the group makes its first appearance in Atlanta Mon., APRIL 23, with a free all-ages show supported by San Francisco dance elastics Tussle. Free. 8 p.m. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. 404-524-7354. www.variety-playhouse.com.
