If JILL SCOTT's latest CD, The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3 (Hidden Beach Recordings), doesn't prove she's moved out from under the shadows of Erykah Badu and the Roots, nothing will. Sexy, slinky, honest, raw and luscious, The Real Thing lives up to its name, as the three-time Grammy winner uses her spoken-word background to exquisite (and seductive) rapping effect on tunes such as "Wanna Be Loved." The string arrangements that grace The Real Thing should prove sweet fodder for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the city's biggest backup band, for this performance Wed., JULY 30. This soul is, after all, from Philly, which practically invented soulful string arrangements. $38-$100. 8 p.m. Chastain Park Amphitheater, 4469 Stella Drive. 404-233-2227. www.ticketmaster.com.
