See & Do - Music: Macy Gray August 15 2007

Sat., Aug. 18

L.A. artist MACY GRAY has a large, raspy and idiosyncratic personality that leaves little room for debate – either you love it or hate it. Appropriately, her new album is called Big, and revisits the outsized orchestrations of late-’70s soul. The first single with Natalie Cole, the lush soul declaration “Finally Made Me Happy,” is a winner. Regardless of whether Gray replicates the kind of success that greeted her triple-platinum debut, 1999’s On How Life Is, fans should still be happy with Big. The recently reunited Brand New Heavies (see Vibes), one of the signature groups of the early ’90s acid-jazz era, opens the Sat., AUG. 18, show. $27.84-$78.60. 7:30 p.m. Chastain Park Amphitheater, Stella Drive and Pool Road. 404-733-5000. www.classicchastain.com.
