Music: Marnie Stern

Saturday, March 14

MARNIE STERN is a golden, axe-wielding goddess who shreds her fret board with nimble dexterity, unleashing a tangle of angelic punk and prog-damaged rock songs. The Brooklyn-based songstress plays fast and furious notes and string-taps that combine equal parts Kim Gordon and Angus Young with a cheerleader's war cry. Each song on her sophomore Kill Rock Stars release, This Is It and I Am It and You Are It and So Is That and He Is It and She Is It and It Is It and That Is That, is a giddy and elated jumble of complex structures that move at a bumble's pace, and are imbued with a dose of lightning, speed and jitters. Local up-and-comers Carnivores open the show with a set of psychedelic tropicalia, lounge and death-afflicted indie-rock sound collages. $8-$10. 10 p.m. 529, 529 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-228-6769.
