These days, Atlanta is pretty much known as festival city. With TomorrowWorld, CounterPoint, Imagine, A3C, Shaky Knees, and ONE Musicfest all laying down roots here, there is no shortage of massive musical gatherings. But before any one of these fests was even a twinkle in a promoter’s eye, Music Midtown was going strong. Since 1994, Music Midtown has been the city’s premier late-summer event, despite a six-year hiatus from 2005 to 2011. Since returning three years ago, the high-volume crowds and mainstream pop, rock, and hip-hop performers have grown steadily, while settling into Piedmont Park’s massive green meadow space. This year brings even more growth, with Eminem, Jack White, the Zac Brown Band, Lorde, Run DMC, Iggy Azalea, Gregg Allman, and others spread out over three stages.
