Since its inaugural event in 1958, which kicked off with legendary performances by Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong, the MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL has been a highly influential showcase. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, festival organizers have assembled a squad of top players led by trumpeter Terence Blanchard (best-known as a soundtrack composer for film director Spike Lee; pictured) and the great saxophonist James Moody for a cross-country tour.
