The MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL may seem like a misnomer. The three-day event, which unfurls Fri.-Sun., AUG. 31-SEPT. 2, teems with artists who have nothing to do with jazz. There are neo-soul stars such as Ledisi and Sleepy Brown (Saturday, pictured) and Chrisette Michele and Leela James (Sunday); local blues vets Bill Sheffield (Saturday) and T-Bone Smith (Sunday); and precious few jazz performers, including Gordon Chambers (Saturday). Don't blame the Atlanta version, though; this year's edition of Switzerland's original Montreux Jazz Festival also boasted nonjazz acts the Chemical Brothers. As such, Montreux has always been about blending the best in current and innovative music regardless of genre. For more on Montreux, click here. Free admission for daytime events.
