See & Do - Music: Morrissey July 18 2007

Fri., July 20

STEPHEN PATRICK MORRISSEY is one of the great British rock vocalists of the past two decades. His dramatic, crooning voice is unmistakable from any other, and his lyrics literally set poetry to sound – many of his songs don’t even have a chorus, just a set of broken verses on unrequited love and alienation. Emerging in the ’80s as the lead singer of the Smiths, the late lamented giants of U.K. indie rock, Morrissey now serves as a caretaker of the alternative tradition, thanks to his unconventional and inspired approach to music. His appearance at Chastain Park Amphitheater on Fri., JULY 20, with New York glam singer Kristeen Young has a question mark: He’s canceled recent shows because of lingering throat problems, so check with the venue before the performance. $34.32-$93.72. 7:30 p.m. Stella Drive and Pool Road. 404-733-5000. www.classicchastain.com.
