Music: Octopus Project

Thurs., Aug. 6

As long-standing innovators of the “indietronica” scene, Austin, Texas, group the OCTOPUS PROJECT comes to town to show off songs from its most recent release, the Golden Beds EP. In the past, Octopus Project’s numbers have been a carnival of mostly instrumental workouts of bliss and experimental junk pop, wrapped in a shimmering, atomic glow. With Golden Beds, the group takes a bold step into a refined, almost straightforward pop sound — but never fear, there’s still plenty of weird and haunting abstraction to be soaked up in these new songs. Local pop/electro experimental acts Tealights and Living Rooms open the show. $5-$8. 9 p.m. Star Bar, 437 Moreland Ave. 404-681-9018. www.starbaratlanta.com.
