See & Do - Music: Richard Lloyd April 17 2009

Sun., April 26

Former Television guitarist RICHARD LLOYD passes through town with the Sufi Monkey Trio. In Television, Lloyd skewed punk’s primitivism into an art-driven sound that transcended the bottom-heavy dirge of the blues by merging the energy and grit of punk with the spontaneity of improv jazz. Lloyd leads a set of Jimi Hendrix covers from his forthcoming release, The Jamie Neverts Story. According to Lloyd, he knew and learned “second-hand” how to play guitar from Hendrix via a mutual friend from childhood named Velvert Jones. Atlanta psych-rock groove riders Seventh Ring of Saturn also perform. $12. 8 p.m. The Earl, 488 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-522-3950. www.badearl.com.
