SHONEN KNIFE’s return finds guitarist/vocalist Naoko Yamano doing what she does best: crafting simple, bubblegum punk songs that unwind with cartoonish glee. Yamano is the only original member of the Japanese trio that won over the States in the early ’90s via alliances with Sonic Youth, Nirvana and the likes. Its latest CD, Super Group, is filled with songs that are just as silly, cute and catchy as Shonen Knife always has been.
