See & Do - Music: Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks March 26 2008

Wed., March 26

Stephen Malkmus set the standard for irony and slackerdom in the indie-rock ’90s when his band Pavement spearheaded the low-fi revolution with the album Slanted and Enchanted way back in ‘92. Nearly two decades after its release, he’s working harder than ever. His fourth solo album for Matador Records, Real Emotional Trash, is a charged rock ‘n’ roll chapter for the Stockton, Calif., native. With the band now rounded out by Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss, STEPHEN MALKMUS AND THE JICKS wield a psychedelic surge of sound that brings the hazy and imperfect din of Malkmus’ past to a sharp point. Special guest John Vanderslice joins the Wed., MARCH 26, show. $18-$20. 8 p.m. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. 404-524-7354. www.variety-playhouse.com.
