See & Do - Music: Tilly and the Wall July 23 2008

Thurs., July 24

Omaha, Neb.’s TILLY AND THE WALL revel in boy-girl vocal harmonies and new wave/folk-pop songs that sparkle with stories about life, love, death and the elation of youth ... and they have a tap dancer instead of a full-time drummer. The group’s third full-length, O, is a departure from the glee-club charm of previous records that captures a rare glimpse of a band that isn’t all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows. Auckland, New Zealand’s experimental journeymen the Ruby Suns also perform Thurs., JULY 24. The group plays breezy, space-aged Beach Boys-style jams that are easy on the ears and candy for the brain. $17.50. 8 p.m. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. 404-524-7354. www.variety-playhouse.com.
