Northwest Atlanta Hard Hit By Flooding
September 26, 2009
Northwest Atlanta's Lincoln Homes neighborhood was especially hard hit by the unprecedented flooding that ravaged the metro region Monday and Tuesday. Proctor Creek, which runs behind a long row of houses in the neighborhood, overflowed and impacted more than 78 nearby homes along Argyle Street, which hugs the creek. By Thursday afternoon, most homeowners had stacked nearly all their possessions in their front yards. Nearly all their valuables — beds, electronics, couches, mementoes — were destroyed.
Joe Mitchell in front of his house on Argyle Street, "I was hoping [the water level] would go down, but it wouldn't. It just kept going up, it looked like a river in the street rather than a neighborhood" he said. "It's a bad ending," he continued. "But it's a new beginning. It's a new beginning."
