Not just for scrapbooking

It's year No. 2 for Decatur-based Paste magazine's king-sized ROCK'N'REEL FESTIVAL. The 2006 event spans 10 days, from SEPT. 15-24, and includes more than 50 bands, 11 shows, multiple feature films and an online short competition where you, the voters, decide the winners. Many already scheduled shows, such as the Sept. 17 Band of Horses concert at Variety Playhouse, seem to have snuck onto the bill recently. In fact, you probably already have tickets to the fest and don't even know it. Watch indie rockers bob their heads with delight to Sufjan -- Was that a hard "j" or Spanish "j"? -- Stevens at the Fox Theatre (right; Wed., Sept. 20), Beirut at Variety Playhouse (Sun., Sept. 24) and José Gonzalez and the French Kicks at the Earl (Sat.-Sun., Sept. 23-24). Besides the music and movies, you'll see other "signs of life" at Saturday's East Atlanta Strut during the 5K run/walk, parade, artist market and kid village. $8-$100. Sat.-Sun., Sept. 16-24, the Earl, 488 Flat Shoals Road; Sun., Sept. 17, Sat.-Sun., Sept. 23-24, Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave.; Wed., Sept. 20, Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St.,
