It took journalist, author and Georgia native Olive Ann Burns more than eight years to write the coming-of-age tale COLD SASSY TREE. Cold Sassy Tree is a fictitious version of her hometown, Harmony Grove (now Commerce), Ga., where 14-year-old Will Tweedy tries to reconcile adolescence and manhood in light of his grandfather's much-gossiped-about May-September romance. The Atlanta Opera has chosen Carlisle Floyd's adaptation of Burns' story for its next production continuing Tues., FEB. 5. Arthur Fagen conducts the performance, which features Erin Wall, John McVeigh, Maureen McKay and Kristopher Irmiter. $27.50-$133.50. Feb. 2 and 8, 8 p.m.; Feb. 5, 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 10, 3 p.m. Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway. 404-817-8700. www.ticketmaster.com.
