Atlanta Opera plucks a ditty from the pages of mythology in ORFEO & EURIDICE, the Christoph Willibald Gluck-penned tale of ill-fated lovers. In a nod to the classic damsel-in-distress storyline, Orfeo makes the long and rather unpleasant trek to the Underworld to rescue his wife Euridice after her untimely death. The determined hero sweet-talks Hades' guardians, the vindictive Furies, to – spoiler alert – ultimately thwart fate and regain his lady love. The premiere features countertenor David Daniels as Orfeo and Canadian soprano Katherine Whyte as Euridice in a continuation of Atlanta Opera's 30th anniversary season. In Italian with English supertitles. $25-$125. Nov. 14, 8 p.m.; Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m.; Nov. 20, 8 p.m.; Nov. 22, 3 p.m. Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway. 404-881-8885. www.atlantaopera.org.
