Love, betrayal and death characterize William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the archetypal lover's tragedy with a plot now so utterly familiar it demands no further explanation. This Thurs., FEB. 8, and Sat.-Sun., FEB. 10-11, the Atlanta Opera premieres ROMÉO ET JULIETTE, the late French composer Charles-François Gounod's melodious interpretation of the bard's chef d'oeuvre. Conductor Gregory Vajda and director Bernard Uzan make their company debuts in this production, along with a cast full of international heavy-hitters, including Lyubov Petrova as Juliette and Fernando de la Mora as Roméo.
