Opera: The Flying Dutchman

Tues., April 28

Though Atlanta is far from the nearest coastline, the seas will swell on stage APRIL 25-MAY 3, with Richard Wagner's THE FLYING DUTCHMAN, the closing production of Atlanta Opera's 2009 season. According to legend, the Dutchman, a ghostly captain, must roam the seas until he finds a wife who can remain faithful until death. Forgo the seasickness and cruise the roads with Ride for the Opera, an organized motorcycle ride before the May 3 matinee, from the Killer Creek Harley-Davidson to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Bike leather is welcome inside the theater, so you're free to leave your opera gloves at home. In German with English supertitles. $27.50-$133.50. April 25, 8 p.m.; April 28, 7:30 p.m.; May 1, 8 p.m.; May 3, 3 p.m. 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway. 404-817-8700. Ride for the Opera: $50-$55. May 3, noon. 11480 Alpharetta Highway, Roswell. 404-881-6866. www.atlantaopera.org.
