Oryx & Crake, Venice Is Sinking, Book of Colors

When: Sat., Aug. 28, 9 p.m. 2010
Price: $7
Atlanta's Oryx & Crake, the nine-person rock collective led by Ryan Peoples and Rebekah Goode-Peoples, aspires to present the perfect meshing of experimental electronic and acoustic music. Formed when the husband-and-wife duo lived in Savannah, Oryx & Crake has absorbed musician friends like Matt Gilbert, who, among other experimental instruments, performs with a MIDI controller fashioned from a coffee grinder. Spanning styles ranging from layered folk to expansive prog, the band's self-titled debut promises a fertile meeting of nine minds.
