Ahh, New Year's Eve. The night that restaurant industry professionals dread. Why? Because of you. You, the customer who only dines out two nights a year – tonight and Valentine's Day. What, that's not you? You just want to get out and eat great food before you party the night away? Hmm ... OK. Here are a few of our picks for what's sure to be tastiest this New Year's Eve:
We always love the special-occasion dinners at PURA VIDA. The restaurant is more affordable than many for New Year's Eve, and Hector Santiago's tapas are always worth celebrating. This New Year's, the restaurant will have an early seating between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., with a special menu that includes three tapas and one dessert for $35 per person. The later seating is between 8:30 and 10 p.m., with a menu of three tapas and one dessert, along with a cava toast, for $45 per person. 656 N. Highland Ave. 404-870-9797. www.puravidatapas.com.
The old-world Atlanta glamour of LIVINGSTON in the Georgian Terrace hotel is a great place to spend your New Year's, especially if you want a reason to put on that slinky floor-length gown. Chef Gary Mennie offers a four-course menu for $50 per person. There will be a Champagne toast, balloon drop and party favors at midnight. 659 Peachtree St. 404-897-5000. www.livingstonatlanta.com.
You'd be lucky to get a seat at WOODFIRE GRILL – word is that "Top Chef" finalist Kevin Gillespie's restaurant is booked well into January. But it might be worth getting on the waiting list, just in case. Gillespie will create a special five-course dinner for the New Year's celebration. At $100 per person, or $85 for the vegetarian option, the prix-fixe meal will be offered all night. 1782 Cheshire Bridge Road. 404-347-9055. www.woodfiregrill.com.
