Petit Le Mans 2011

October 3, 2011
October 1, 2011 - Over 100,000 race fans made the trek to Braselton, GA to watch an international field of 53 production-based race cars and one-off prototypes take on the 2.54-mile Road Atlanta for the Petit LeMans, largest endurance racing event in the country. Unlike other forms of motorsports, like NASCAR, LeMans-style racing pits multiple driver teams in five different classes in an ultra endurance race based on the original 24hrs of LeMans that began in France in 1923. Many teams use cars that began their life as a car in a dealer's showroom; including the BMW M3, Chevy Corvette, Ferrari 458 Italia and Porsche 911. This year's race saw the return of the battle for between the series' powerhouses Audi and Peugeot and their 200mph diesel prototypes, with the #8 Peugeot 908 of Montagny/Sarrazin/Wurz take the win of the 1000-mile race.
