Potent Cocktails

Inman Park Patio

New ownership wisely decided to build an adjoining bar onto the once-drab dining room with the kind of dim, woozy lighting Atlantans flock to. The bartenders have feisty senses of humor, and they pour the drinks strong. The Build Your Own Bruschetta appetizer, perfect for sharing, takes the edge off admirably.

MidCity Cuisine

Sidle up to MidCity's swank, retro-ish bar and the staff will present you with a menu of both cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Milk and Honey, with ginger-infused Hangar One and lemongrass syrup, and a Limoncello martini with fresh thyme, are two tingly creations you'll long to return for. A choice spot to wind up a second or third date.

Sweet Devil Moon

A frothy, reviving pisco sour is the drink to hone in on at this funkadelic Peruvian tapas bar in Oakhurst. Knock back a few sours (or sprightly sangria, which is worth ordering here as well) with lomo saltado, strips of steak with fries, or aji de gallina, a luscious chicken stew spiked with wine and thickened with parmesan.

Trader Vic's

The name Mai Tai conjures images of women in muu muus and men in polyester suits dueling forks over a fondue pot. And that's pretty much the vibe you get when you mosey into the subterranean Trader Vic's at the Hilton Atlanta downtown. The Mai Tai and its cohorts (Samoan Fog Cutter, Suffering Bastard, Mahukona) enjoy an infamous reputation with good reason: These drinks are dangerous.
