25 Questions for a Jewish Mother by Judy Gold

When I grew up I visited the Anne Frank House, and it was so emotional that I kept imagining my family in the same situation. They lived in the smallest space for two-and-a-half years and had to keep totally quiet for fear of being caught by the Nazis. Which would have been the demise of my entire family because there was no way my mother would have kept her mouth quiet for an entire afternoon.

"Judith, I asked you to wash that dish 10 minutes ago."

"Ma, shut up, we're going to get caught."

"That's right we're going to get caught, and we're all going to die because you couldn't wash a goddamn dish."

– Comedian Judy Gold, from her one-woman show 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother, continuing at the Center Theatre at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta through Sunday, Sept. 21
