Call it freedom, independence, or an emancipation of sorts. On July 4 of this year, Rahbi earned enough Kickstarter funds to complete the first EP of three planned releases, Goldenchild Trimester 1 ... Fun. For years, the kinetic ATLien cosmonaut has held down his very own spot by creating glittery-glam electro pop that's respected from the drag scene to hip-hop circles. His sound is sweet but not sugary, and sexual but not nasty. (Well, not too nasty). "My Love ATLantis" is a cleverly spaced-out display of appreciation for his beloved home base, and the P.J. Morton-produced "Rollercoaster" is still a fun ride. Parented by disco and soul, and midwifed by funk, Rahbi delivers a sweaty love romp worthy of his exuberant stage shows. (4 out of 5 stars)
