Ride the pony 

Between the funnel cakes, cotton candy and barbecue, how could you not love spending a day at the North Georgia State Fair? The 73rd annual event begins Sept. 22 and includes crowd-pleasers like the Frisco Brothers Petting Zoo, pony rides and all kinds of carnival games and fair food. Tickets also get you into shows including Bear Mountain Wildlife Encounter, in which spectators can learn about different species of bears and see them live; Hypnomania Travis Fox, who combines family-friendly comedy with hypnosis; and the human cannonball, David "The Bullet" Smith.
